Eryngium glomeratum

 

Description: Glaucous, many stemmed perennial. Stems 30-60cm, with many leaves. Basal leaves withered at flowering, 6-10cm, bipinnatisect below and bipinnatifid above, segments toothed, the teeth spine tipped. Stem leaves with a broad, entire, parallell-veined, sheathing stalk, lamina very deeply pinnatifid with a spinulose rachis and rigid, linear-lanceolate, entire or spinulose lobes. Inflorescence an oblong, thyrsoid panicle; flower heads many, small, ovoid-globose, 6-10mm diameter. Bracts 5-6, linear-subulate, triquetrous, pungent, entire or remotely spinulose, 1.5-6 times flower head. Bracteoles all entire, shorter or longer than sepals.

Distribution: Crete,  Cyprus,  East Aegean Islands,  Israel and The Palestinian Territories,  Lebanon,  Syria,  Turkey,
