Eryngium variifolium

 

Description: Perennial to 45cm, with silver-blue stems in sun. Leaves persistent, in basal rosettes, oblong-circular, base heart-shaped, mid- dark green, marbled cream on veins, margins toothed. Upper stem-leaves pinnatifid, spiny. Bracts 5-7, 2-6 cm, linear-lanceolate, ivory at centre, blue-green, exceeding head, margin with 1 or 2 pairs of spines. Head to 2cm wide, spherical. Petals silver, blue.
